Tooth Whitening

Serving the Hannibal, and St. Louis, Missouri and Quincy, Illinois areas

Most people dream about having a dazzling, beautifully white smile. For this reason, tooth whitening has become the most popular cosmetic dental procedure available today. With a whiter and brighter smile, you may find that you have become more outgoing and confident. You may even feel more attractive and realize you no longer shyly move your hand in front of your mouth when you smile. With tooth whitening, you will want to show off your pearly whites, not hide your dingy yellows. Hannibal, Missouri Cosmetic Dentist Dr. Charles Janes is proud to offer the latest in tooth whitening technology and promises to keep you smiling from ear to ear for years to come.

If you have found yourself on our website reading about tooth whitening, you have probably already tried over-the-counter teeth whitening products such as trays, strips, or toothpastes to no avail. These products often produce unnatural looking results. Some seem to produce no results at all. There are a few reasons for this: the whitening agents in these products are not professional strength; the one-size-fits-all trays typically don’t fit in the mouth properly; and whitening toothpastes are too slow and weak to produce any significant change. In fact, many whitening toothpastes contain abrasives that can gradually damage the enamel of your teeth.

The ZOOM! Teeth Whitening Method

Dr. Charles Janes uses the ZOOM! whitening method. This process has the capability of improving the whiteness of your teeth up to 12 shades. Even the best at-home trays only offer an improvement of up to 6 shades. Do consider that there are no guarantees with trays, strips, or toothpaste that the whitening results will be consistent. ZOOM! not only produces immediate results, but the longest lasting, most naturally brilliant and uniform results.

Older whitening technologies often rely on high concentrations of the whitening agent hydrogen peroxide. These high concentrations (35 – 50% in many cases) are the main contributor to tooth sensitivity and other discomforts associated with trays and strips. The ZOOM! process uses a 20% concentrated gel. During the process, this gel is applied to the teeth, and then a light is used to activate the gel for 15 minutes while the patient listens to music, naps, or watches TV. This process is repeated two more times before the patient leaves the dentist’s office – most clients experiencing little or no temporary tooth sensitivity.

Customized at-home trays

If you decide not to opt for the ZOOM! tooth whitening procedure, Dr. Janes will create a custom-fit mouth tray for you. Depending on the degree of whitening required, you'll wear the gel-filled tray for a length of time that Dr. Janes will determine is best for you. These may be worn either during waking or sleeping hours.

Only a qualified cosmetic dentist can determine which procedure is right for you. If you live in the Hannibal, Missouri area and think you might be a candidate for teeth whitening, please contact our cosmetic dentist at the office of Dr. Charles Janes today to arrange a tooth whitening consultation.
