Questions about Tooth Bonding

Serving Hannibal and St. Louis, Missouri and Quincy, Illinois areas

What is tooth bonding?

Tooth bonding is a way to fix minor imperfections with your teeth by using a putty-like composite that Dr. Janes adheres to the problem areas. Tooth bonding can be used to correct:

Little to anesthetic or mold is needed. Minor damage is fixed quickly and the bonding is very sturdy.

What are the advantages of tooth bonding?

Tooth bonding can be done in the office, so you don't have to wear a temporary fitting while waiting for the material sent to a lab. The entire tooth bonding process is completed very quickly. No anesthetic is needed, no special care is required, and it costs less than porcelain restorations. The bonding material is made to match the color of your teeth so it looks natural.

How long does the tooth bonding material last?

The tooth bonding can last from a few to as many as ten years and is dependent on your dental hygiene and diet. Staining may occur during this time, but you can have the tooth bonding polished back to its original shade by Dr. Janes. Also, if the bonding chips or cracks, it can be easily repaired.

How does tooth bonding look different from porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers absorb and reflect light the way translucent tooth enamel does. Tooth bonding material can be matched to the color of your teeth, but is more opaque than porcelain veneers. Bonding can be shaped and sized to look like your teeth, and hard to recognize as bonding, while porcelain veneers are very thin shells placed on the front of your teeth to hide imperfections.

How should tooth bonding be cared for?

In many ways, you may treat tooth bonding as you would your natural teeth. Brush and floss daily and visit your dentist regularly. The same things that stain your teeth will stain your tooth bonding. Avoid these as much as possible
