CEREC
Hannibal, Missouri
In the not too distant past, the only choice for some ceramic restorations, like crowns or veneers, was a multi-step process that included at least two visits to the dentist. Cosmetic dentist Dr. Charles Janes, who has his office located in Hannibal, Missouri, utilizes the CEREC III system that allows him to create ceramic restorations right in his offices, in one visit.
The word “CEREC” is an acronym for “Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics “and can be accurately described as one visit dentistry for tooth restoration. CEREC is a versatile technology and allows Dr. Janes to create many types of ceramic restorations including:
- Inlays & Onlays
- Full and ¾ crowns
- Porcelain Veneers when a small number is needed
The CEREC Process
One of the greatest advantages of the CEREC system is how convenient it is for you. You can have complete restoration of a tooth in just one visit and sometimes in less than an hour. Just a few steps and you’ll be going home with a new tooth or teeth. Here’s how it’s done:
- After Dr. Janes determines that you are a candidate for CEREC restoration, he will use an infrared camera to take an optical impression of the tooth to be restored.
- The 3D image is uploaded to a computer and cosmetic dentist Dr. Janes uses the CAD (Computer Aided Design) system to design your new ceramic crown or other restoration.
- The next step utilizes a CAM, or Computer Aided Manufacturing, diamond milling unit to form your restorative piece from a solid block of ceramic material. This is completed in just a few minutes.
- Dr. Janes places the ceramic piece in its place, makes sure the fit is right for your mouth and bite and then using bonding material, permanently affixes it to your tooth.
You’ll leave the office with a great fitting restoration that is as strong and natural-feeling as your own enamel, and looks as good as those created in dental laboratories.

Keep in mind that not every tooth that needs restoration is a candidate for the CEREC process.
