Questions about CEREC
Serving Hannibal and St. Louis, Missouri and Quincy, Illinois areas
Am I a candidate for a CEREC restoration?
Just about anyone who is in generally good health can be a candidate for CEREC. One notable exception is someone who has destroyed a tooth or teeth by clenching or grinding. Unless you have full neuromuscular orthodontics to correct the extreme stresses on your teeth, it is likely that your CEREC tooth would be destroyed in the same way. The best way to know if you are a candidate is to schedule a CEREC consultation with cosmetic dentist Dr. Charles Janes. He'll evaluate your situation and decide whether CEREC or another form of restoration is best for you.
What are the advantages of CEREC?
There are many advantages to using CEREC over other traditional methods for restoring teeth. The biggest advantages are that CEREC is comfortable and convenient for you the patient. Other advantages include:
- All of the restoration is completed in one visit
- No messy impressions need to be taken
- No temporary dental crowns are needed
- CEREC materials are plaque resistant
- More of the tooth can be left intact than with other restoration methods
Are there any disadvantages to CEREC?
The are very few disadvantages to the CEREC system but a couple of items to keep in mind are:
- The expense of your restorations is rolled into one visit instead of being spread out over weeks or months.
- Not all teeth can be repaired using CEREC so be sure to check with your cosmetic dentist first.
Is CEREC a new procedure?
The latest version of CEREC — CEREC III, which includes the 3D piece of technology, has been around just over a year or so. However, the CEREC method has been around much longer in the US and around the world. According to the CEREC website, over 7,000,000 CEREC restorations have been performed worldwide.
Why isn't CEREC more widely available?
There are several reasons why CEREC isn't performed by a large number of cosmetic dentists. First, cosmetic dentists must have special training and be highly skilled to perform CEREC restorations correctly. In addition, the investment in the equipment is costly for the cosmetic dentist and not everyone is willing to make this investment in their patients.
